Our approach

Our vision is for children to be happy, confident, highly engaged and motivated learners

We do this through the power of play, high quality teaching and emotional support. We promote family and multi-cultural values. That means that for the children in our care, it’s a home from home; healthy meals, fun activities both indoors and outdoors which are tailored to each child’s needs, opportunities for social development and a commitment to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

Bespoke curriculum

Our curriculum draws together the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) objectives with our Hoppers Nurseries values. Our bespoke curriculum is designed to prepare children for life in the modern world, and is structured around a framework of four core pillars.

Our environment

Our environments are carefully designed so that all activities are displayed at the child’s level. We encourage freedom of movement and choice so we provide lots of open ended un-prescribed resources, and high quality tools and materials to work with.

In our nursery you will find spaces for light exploration with light boxes, over-head projectors and digital projectors; clay, wire and wood work in the garden; painting, drawing and construction and lots of recycled materials. We believe children have hundreds of ways of expressing themselves, and providing an inspiring environment acts as their ‘third teacher’. We continually assess and refresh our activities to ensure the environment is fresh, relevant and exciting.

Montessori inspired practice

Although our approach is continuously evolving and inspired by many schools of thought, we are particularly inspired by Maria Montessori Pedagogical Approach. The practical life area of our classrooms are filled with activities that allow children to practice different kinds of daily life activities. These revolve around four areas:

  • Caring for self (washing hands; pouring water; cutting snacks)

  • Caring for the environment (wiping a table and sweeping the floor)

  • Social interactions

  • Management and movement of objects (carrying a tray or setting a table)

Our children

We recognise and respect that children learn and develop at their own pace. However, in order to help organise our activities, children are split into four groups.

These age ranges allow for developmental differences, but also take into consideration the importance of social learning and the benefits that come from mixing children of varied stages of development.

Our younger rooms are a home from home. Led by a Montessori trained practitioner, we have created a calm room of sensorial experiences to interest your child’s natural curiosity as they grow and develop. Natural materials, aromatherapy and gentle music set the tone for this space. Every area of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) is blended with our Montessori curriculum and materials.

Activities

Alongside our key pillars, Hoppers Nurseries provides a range of extra-curricular activities delivered by our enrichment partners. These include specialist dance and yoga lessons, as well as sports coaching in football and basketball. We ensure our enrichment partners are local businesses who commit to sending the same coaches and teachers each week. This ensures that the children build relationships with our enrichment partners, and it helps our partners to deliver sessions that develop children’s skills over time.
